Someone is playing a trick on me like nothing I have ever seen.
Seems like yesterday the trees were full and our backyard was green.
The sun stayed out forever. I was splashing in a kiddie pool.

The weekends are really different now. Dad has put away his grill.
He used to slip me pieces of smoked chicken that was my summer thrill.

What happened to all the birds that were here? Now there are only a few.
And those green bugs that made a buzzing noise, that mainly showed up in June!
And those puffy flowers kids would blow on making helicopters fly;
Same flowers dad would mow, over three times, as he yelled and screamed! Oh my!

Yes, someone is playing a trick on me. The kids used to be here all day.
Now they climb in a yellow tank in the mornings, that takes them all away.
I’d watch in the window, missing them bad. Hoping they’ll be home soon.
They’re always in a bad mood in the mornings, but laughing in the afternoon!

Yes, I do miss summer. I wish it were here all year.
Especially here in the winter, when snow and sleet are near.
Then I heard my mom explain it. It was no trick at all.
Just life and the change of seasons, winter, spring, summer and fall.

Our lives are always changing, just like the seasons do.
Enjoy each season for what it is, life is precious, it ends too soon.
If it were summer every day, then it too would get old.
I do appreciate summer more, now that it’s bitter and cold.

There’s beauty in every season in life, even when things seem bad.
When things get tough, keep in mind, all the good seasons you’ve had.
